Pay Table: Every slot machine has a pay table, either displayed directly on the machine, or by pressing the ‘Pay Table’ button. Be sure to read over the pay table before playing. It will tell you all possible winning combinations and respective payouts, as well as any specific rules regarding higher payouts, such as requirements for releasing a jackpot prize.
Paylines: Most online slot machines allow players to bet on more than one payline. A payline is a single line running across the reels, left to right, in which a winning combination can be achieved. Paylines are not always straight across. They can be diagonal, or, on higher multi-line slots, can actually zig-zag their way across the reels. Every payline you activate will cost one more coin, so be sure you know what you’re spending before hitting the ‘Bet Max’ button. A 25-line slot, played at $0.25, will cost $6.25 per spin with all lines activated.
Classic Reel Slots Rules
Classic reel slots are 3 reel slots machines based on the original slot machines, introduced n the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. They have 3 spinning reels, each designated with a series of symbols. The object is to line up 3 like symbols, or any winning combination of symbols, to release the corresponding payout.
Classic 3 reel slots can have 1, 3 or 5 paylines, depending on the set-up. If there is only one line of symbols across, there will only be one payline. Most often, there are three line across, resulting in 3 or 5 paylines. If there are 5 paylines, they will be the three lines going across, plus the diagonal lines, left top to bottom right, and bottom left to top right.
Classic reel slots with only 1 payline will allow you to wager 1, 2, 3 or 5 coins per play, all wagered on a single payline. Check the Pay Table to see the benefits of betting max coins.
Video Slots Rules
Video Slots are kind of like reel slots, except that there are at least 5 reels going across, and they do not contain actual spinning reels, but rather a video screen depicting all reels. Video slots will have a distinct theme, with all symbols matching that theme. There is one Wild symbol that can take the place of any other symbol required to complete a winning combination. There is also generally a Scatter symbol, which, when lined up on a payline with 3 or more Scatters, will initiate bonus features.
Bonus features can be free spins, where the slot automatically runs through the number of free spins awarded, and multiplies the payouts of all wins. The more Scatters you lined up, the higher the multiplier will be.
Progressive Slots Rules
Progressive slots come in both classic reel and video slot forms. The progressive label only means that the jackpot will start at a preset amount, continuing to grow higher with each spin of the reels until it is released. Note that you will not be able to release the progressive jackpot if you do not ‘Bet Max’. You don’t have to hit the Bet Max button (optional), but you do have to bet a minimum coin amount, and activate all paylines. Be sure to read the Pay Table to determine how much you need to wager, and what combination is required to release a progressive jackpot.
General / How To Play
Every slot machine has a series of buttons, some more than others depending on the number of paylines available. We’ll detail each of the buttons below.
Coin Size: This button has a left and right arrow, allowing you to change the coin denomination of each bet. If you choose $0.05, every activated payline costs $0.05.
Bet One: This button allows you to bet one coin. On a single payline slot, you press this button for each coin you wish to wager. On multi-line slots, each time you press this button you are activating another payline. Note that multi-line slots often have buttons labeled Bet One, Bet Five, Bet Ten, etc. to speed up the betting process.
Bet Max: This button will automatically bet the maximum number of coins/paylines, setting the reels in motion.
Spin: If you do not select Bet Max, you will need to press the Spin button to set the reels in motion once your wager is placed.
Cash Out: This button will cash out all winnings and remaining credits. Most live casinos now give the player a ticket, rather than actual coins. The ticket is taken to the cashier booth and redeemed for its value. In online casinos, pressing Cash Out will simply move all winnings and remaining credits back into your bankroll.
